Memory Masks
A puppet and mask workshop focused on raw texturing, color, and object embedding techniques with Papier Mâché (ending up with unpainted, yet fully finished, masks or puppets). The emphasis is on creating a narrative sculpture with autobiographical elements: found objects, meaningful papers, significant cloth. Attendees will create objects of sentimental and sacred significance! This workshop begins with a 30m slideshow on the symbolic, theatrical, and spiritual roots of mask and puppetry, then continues with hands-on instruction on construction and performance. Materials provided (attendees are encouraged to bring their own significant objects as well). Minimum of 2 days required for presentation. Adjustable for varying age groups, intended for 15+. |
Floating Fellows
This workshop provides basic marionette theory and practice through the construction of a charming "floating fellow" -- a scarf marionette based on the design and principles of Albrecht Roser. Attendees will assemble, weight-balance, string, decorate, and learn to perform evocative movements with their puppets for storytelling or play! This presentation begins with a short discussion of marionette theory and history, focusing on the work of German master puppeteer Albrecht Roser. All materials provided. Adjustable duration. Appropriate for ages 13+, younger welcome with adult supervision. |
